Fargo Office

Chuck Drake is the President of Drake Counseling Services, Inc. Chuck has a Masters Degree in Counseling with specialization in addiction counseling from North Dakota State University. He is certified as a Master Addiction Counselor by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselors (NAADAC) and is licensed in North Dakota as an Addiction Counselor and Clinical Counselor. Since 1983, Chuck has worked in both outpatient and inpatient clinical settings. He received his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision through North Dakota State University. Chuck is also a current member of the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselors and is a past president and current member of the North Dakota Addiction Counselors Association.


Teri Vareberg is the Vice President/Administrative Director of Drake Counseling Services, Inc. Teri has direct responsibility for the overall administration of the agency. When anyone asks, "who should I talk to?" they are usually told "Teri". Teri currently lives in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota with her husband Randy. She has been with Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since 1999.


Dr. Barrie March, M.D. is the Medical Director for Adult Programs at Drake Counseling Services, Inc. He received his M.D. from Tufts University in Boston, MA. He has been in private practice in Internal Medicine in Fargo since 1978. Dr. March has been active in the field of addiction medicine for the past ten years, providing services through a variety of local treatment facilities and lecturing in various aspects of addiction. He is a member of The American Society of Addiction Medicine.


Jack W Lind, M.D. is the Psychiatric Consultant at Drake Counseling Services, Inc. Dr. Lind has his own private psychiatry practice in Fargo in addition to providing psychiatric consulting services to other residential and treatment programs in the Fargo area. He is professionally affiliated with the American Medical Association, the North Dakota Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the North Dakota Psychiatric Society.


Ashley Kallod is the Utilization Manager for Drake Counseling Services.  She is a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead and joined Drake Counseling Services, Inc. in April 2009.

 

Jim Symons is the Adult Partial Hospitalization/Day Outpatient Treatment Program Counselor in the Fargo Office. He is a Licensed Addiction Counselor and Social Worker in the state of North Dakota. He is a Certified Addiction Counselor Supervisor. Jim received his Bachelor's degree in Social Work at the University of North Dakota. He completed his counselor training at United Recovery Center and North East Human Services Center in Grand Forks, ND. His work experience includes: Chemical Dependency Technician at United Recovery Center in Grand Forks, Certified DUI School Instructor, Licensed Addiction Counselor at Lake Region Human Service Center in Devils Lake, Licensed Outpatient Addiction Counselor at Trinity Health in Minot, and Director of Addiction Services at Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center. Jim's areas of special interest include prescription drug addiction, dual diagnosis, addiction education, and program development. Jim has been with Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since March 2002.


Lyle Heit is the Adult Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program Counselor in the Fargo Office. He received his Bachelors degree from Minot State University in 1993. He is a Licensed Addiction Counselor and Licensed Social Worker in the state of North Dakota and a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor in the state of Minnesota. He has lived and worked in the Fargo area since 1995 and enjoys spending time with family, playing golf, and participating in other outdoor activities. He has been with Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since March 2007.


 
Sheila Kapaun is the Family Counselor in the Fargo Office. She attended NDSU and has worked in the chemical dependency field for 27 years. She is a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor in the state of Minnesota. She has worked for Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since October 2006.

Janelle Miedema is the Outpatient Mental Health Counselor in the Fargo Office. Janelle received her Master of Social Work degree from UND in 1993 and is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. Janelle has 25 years of social work experience including: specialized foster care, residential treatment for adolescents, individual, family and group counseling, program development and supervision. Janelle is also a graduate faculty member for the University of Minnesota, MSW Distance Education Program. She has been with Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since June 2006.


Jennifer Bartsch is the Primary Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Counselor in the Fargo Office.  She received her Bachelor's Degree in Child Development and Family Science from North Dakota State University in 2004.  Jennifer received her M.Ed Degree in Community Counseling at North Dakota State University in May 2007.  She is a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) in the state of North Dakota.  Jennifer joined Drake Counseling Services, Inc. in May 2007.


Maronda Robertson is the Primary Counselor for the Adult Day Treatment Program at the Fargo office.  Maronda received her Master's in Community Counseling from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2004.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1994 and worked as a teacher for four years.  She did mental health counseling and ran an outpatient adolescent program in Minnesota until she began employment with Drake Counseling Services, Inc. in 2007.  She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in North Dakota and has her LADC in Minnesota and her LAC in North Dakota.


Julie A.I. Smith is a Master Level Licensed Addiction Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Clinical Supervisor in the state of North Dakota. Julie Smith received her master’s degree in counseling from the University of North Dakota in 1996. Ms. Smith came to Drake Counseling Services, Inc. in 2007 and currently provides Adult Day Outpatient Treatment/Adult Partial Hospitalization. She specializes in harm reduction methods for engagement with the chronic-addicted populations, family involvement in group treatment, Prime for Life/DUI Education, and HIV prevention education for clients, staff, and community agencies. Ms. Smith also enjoys mentoring addiction counselor trainees from the North Dakota Consortium. She compliments the current staff at Drake Counseling by bringing her vast experiences and successfully projects a positive attitude for creative implementation of quality dual-diagnosis treatment strategies, progressive counseling using best practices from research, and utilization of treatment improvement protocol for maximum outcomes and long-term sobriety for her clients.


 

Lori Pearson is a Licensed Special Education Teacher with the Fargo Public School system. She provides the education component for the Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program in the Fargo Office. Lori has worked as a special education teacher for seven years, six years with the Fargo school system. She has her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in special education as a General Strategist. She has collaborated with Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since August 2003.


Jennifer Rohweder is the Adolescent Case Manager for the Fargo Office. She is a graduate of Pelican Rapids High School and has attended Minnesota State University Moorhead. She has been with Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since 1998.


Mary Drake provides Accounts Receivable services. Mary brings many years of secretary and transcriptionist experience to Drake Counseling Services. She has been with Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since 1996.


Grand Forks Office

Vicki Loyland has been employed with Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since February 2003. She is the Director of Grand Forks Services and the Primary Counselor for the Relapse Prevention Program. Vicki has been working in the field of addiction since 1985. For 16 of those years, she was employed with Altru Health Systems in Grand Forks. Vicki received her Bachelor's degree from Jamestown College and completed her addiction counselor training in the James River Consortium. Vicki lives in Thompson, ND with her husband and daughter.


Eve Bostyan is the Adult Outpatient Counselor in the Grand Forks Office of Drake Counseling. She is a graduate of Jamestown College with a BA in Biology and of UND with a BSW. She is licensed in ND as a social worker and an addiction counselor. She has worked in the addiction field in North Dakota since 1980 and was employed at Altru Hospital from 1984-2004. She has been employed at Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since May 2004.


Wanda LaMotte is the Adolescent Outpatient Program counselor in the Grand Forks Office of Drake Counseling Services, Inc. She is a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead with a BA in Social Work. She is licensed in the State of North Dakota as a Social Worker. She has completed her Addiction Training and is working towards obtaining her addiction counselor licensure in North Dakota. Wanda joined Drake Counseling Services, Inc. in January 2008.


 

 

Crystal Bostow is the Primary Adult Day Treatment Counselor for the Grand Forks office.  She received her Bachelors of Arts from the University of North Dakota in 2004, her Masters of Arts from Luther Seminary in 2006 and her Masters of Arts from the University of North Dakota in 2008.  Crystal is recognized by the State of North Dakota as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) and a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC).  She has been working for Drake Counseling since July 2008. 


 

Kaley Knutson is the Office Manager for the Grand Forks office.  She has been employed with Drake Counseling Services, Inc. since March 2009.


 

Detroit Lakes Office

Patrick Plemel is the Family Counselor at the Detroit Lakes Office.  Patrick has been with Drake Counseling since November 2009.


 
Jennifer Gifford is the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program Counselor in the Detroit Lakes Office.  Jenn has been with Drake since August 2009.

 


Emily Wheelwright is the Office Manager in the Detroit Lakes Office. She has been with Drake Counseling since November 2009.

 

Drake Residential Treatment Center

Michael Hanson is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) through the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy.  He is the Primary Adolescent Addiction Counselor at Drake Residential Treatment Center.  He has 13 years of experience providing direct care in an adolescent residential treatment setting.  (Eight of those years were spent working with adolescents with mental health/behavioral issues and five years were spent working with adolescents with Dual Diagnosis.)  Michael has worked part-time in adolescent detention for 4 years.  He provided addiction counseling services in 2 school districts during the 07-08 school years.  Michael has a BS in Applied Psychology:  Human Services with a Chemical Dependency Certificate from Bemidji State University.


 
Robyn Beck is the Facility Director at Drake Residential Treatment Center in Detroit Lakes, MN.  Her work experience includes Office Coordinator for Dr. Robert Kline, Office Manager for Lakeland Mental Health Center and Housing Case Worker for Mahube Community Council.  She also mangages the book-keeping portion of her husband's business.  Robyn brings several years of experience to Drake on supervision and office coordination.  She joined Drake in April of 2009.
