Adolescent Programs

  • Intensive Outpatient Treatment: The Intensive Outpatient Treatment program is for adolescents meeting diagnostic criteria for a substance use disorder. The goal of the program is to facilitate one’s understanding and acceptance of his or her substance use disorder and the establishment of a life free from substance abuse. Participants meet with their counselor individually once a week and attend programming three evenings a week. Each evening includes an educational component and group or multifamily counseling. Individual family counseling may also be recommended and provided. The program strongly encourages family participation knowing that family participation is the greatest predictor of treatment completion and that treatment completion is the greatest predictor of lasting change.
  • Day Treatment: The Day Treatment program is for adolescents meeting diagnostic criteria for a substance use disorder and needing care somewhat less intense than inpatient treatment but more intense than intensive outpatient treatment. The program provides a safe, supportive, and structured environment between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. Lunch is provided on site. The length of the treatment depends on client progress but often between 5 and 7 weeks. In addition to daily therapeutic activities, Drake Counseling Services, Inc. contracts with the Fargo Public School District to assist the adolescent with his or her educational needs. The school work comes directly from the student's home school and provides the student with an opportunity to get back on track as needed. Family counseling is provided on an individual family basis.
  • Residential Care: The Residential Care program provides a coed home-like setting. Treatment is gender and culturally appropriate and gives consideration to the skills, limitations, and needs of young persons, ages 13–18, at different stages of development and with different levels of medical severity and problem behavior. Therapeutic services are provided on a daily basis. Residents interact daily with their alcohol and drug counselor in individual and group counseling. The home like setting provides a supportive structure and encourages good daily habits. Residents learn the value of chores, positive interaction with others, and family relationships. Recreational, community, and cultural activities provide residents an opportunity to have successful experiences through physical, cultural, and social accomplishments. The program includes frequent sessions of both individual and multi-family counseling. The academic program utilizes licensed teachers and has as its goal the facilitation of the resident's academic needs as assessed by the resident's home school. Care is provided by a caring and experienced multidisciplinary staff and begins the day the young person arrives.
  • Continuing Care: The Continuing Care program is beneficial for the adolescent having recently completed treatment at a more intense level of care. The program is designed to further address their understanding and skill of avoiding a relapse, management of coexisting disorders, and establishment of goals conducive to a healthy and substance free lifestyle.
  • Extended Care: Extended Care is provided on an individual basis. It is intended to provide extended care to individuals who have completed other recommended programs of treatment but are in need of additional care to further address clinically significant issues and refinement of their recovery program. Sessions are scheduled and normally last between 45 minutes and one hour.
  • Relapse Prevention: The Relapse Prevention program is a 10 week program designed for adolescents who have accepted the fact of their substance use disorder but have been unsuccessful in their efforts to remain abstinent. The program helps participants to develop greater insight and skill at preventing relapse, connect with a 12-step program and sponsor, and put into practice the necessity of working a daily program of recovery. Additionally, the program includes individual counseling to further address clinically significant issues and develop a greater self esteem.
